Youth initiated programs have been seen as the most effective medium for peace advocacy in the community.
Diakonia Compassionate Ministry (DCM), a faith based organization has been in the forefront in championing for peace and reconciliation in the community involvement of youths in active participation in this program.
Operating marjorly in Nyanza Province, it targets regions communities’ border regions that were seriously affected in the post-election violence. DCM’s director Rev. David Chuchu believes in tolerance and accommodation on one another as key to peaceful co-existence.
Thruogh youth’s puppet show ,inter-tribal sports activities and dialogue, the ministry has succeeded in restoring peaceful co -existence to the Luo and the Abagussi communities in Nyalenda, Nyamasaria and in Chabera -the borderline of Kisii and the Luo under the theme “Do Not Harm, We are all Kenyans”. It targets to reach 50,000 people through the USAID/OTI program that it is currently implementing.
“Youths should interact freely without ethnic prejudice and stereotyping”, said Samuel Odhiambo during a peace building workshop in the ongoing peace summit at Lenana School.
